Project Lunch: Successful Learning with LLM Tutors

LLM-based tutors that use Socratic-style questioning to stimulate independent thinking are considered a promising approach for learning with LLMs. In practice, however, clear differences emerge in how students actually use these tutors: actively and reflectively, or rather passively, with the risk of cognitive offloading instead of genuine understanding.

The project team presents how it identifies features in these learner-tutor interactions that are associated with successful learning, and how these relate to individual factors. Since analysing such conversations is very labour-intensive, the team also explores how this process can be automated.

In this Project Lunch, the team shares its findings and experiences from the project.
