Development and Evaluation of an Educational Chatbot for Promoting Deepfake Literacy

Laying the foundation for deepfake literacy through research and educator insights to guide future AI-supported learning solutions.

Abstract

This project serves as a critical first step in advancing deepfake literacy education by systematically reviewing existing research and engaging with educators to identify key pedagogical and technological considerations. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical groundwork, we aim to synthesize best practices for AI-supported educational interventions. This phase will establish a robust conceptual framework to guide future research and development. In collaboration with BFH and PHSG, the project aligns with BeLEARN’s mission to foster innovative and evidence-based approaches to digital literacy education, with subsequent phases contingent on securing additional funding.

(Zwischen-) Ergebnisse und Infos zum Projektstand

We are currently engaged in an extensive literature review, systematically mapping existing research on deepfake literacy, AI-assisted learning methodologies, and pedagogical strategies for digital literacy education. In parallel, we are preparing participatory workshops with educators to gather empirical insights into classroom challenges and instructional needs. These findings will serve as the foundation for a structured research agenda, informing the conceptualization of future interventions. Additionally, preparations are underway for securing further funding, ensuring continuity in the research trajectory and eventual implementation.

Translation

To ensure research findings are effectively translated into educational practice, we propose:

  • Systematic Knowledge Synthesis: Conducting a rigorous literature review to establish an empirical basis for future deepfake literacy interventions.
  • Empirical Needs Assessment: Engaging educators through workshops to align theoretical insights with practical instructional challenges.
  • Conceptual Framework Development: Defining key pedagogical principles and technological affordances for AI-supported learning.
  • Strategic Research Planning: Outlining a roadmap for subsequent development, testing, and large-scale implementation of educational interventions.
