ChatGPT and take-home exams: Innovative approaches to the responsible integration of generative AI in university teaching

Abstract

The research project «ChatGPT and Take-home Exams: Innovative Approaches for the Responsible Integration of Generative AI in Higher Education» aims to develop new assessment methods that allow the use of ChatGPT in examinations. The focus is on designing take-home exams that leverage the potential of generative AI while ensuring academic integrity.By combining literature-based research with practical pilot projects, two innovative examination approaches will be developed and tested to support students› learning processes while meeting ethical and didactic requirements. In parallel, workshops and guidelines for educators will be created to promote the broad application of these methods.The effectiveness and acceptance of these approaches will be continuously evaluated through qualitative and quantitative measures. In the long term, the project aims to establish the developed methods as a permanent part of higher education and contribute to the advancement of digital examination formats.
